The Tall Ship “SUNDERLAND” however
truly has a History behind it, to qualify as a Historical vessel
because she is the oldest English Tall Ship left in the world that
is still sailing.
The “SUNDERLAND” is a Tall Ship built in Lowestoft, England by
Samuel Richards in 1885; Richards’s vessels became famous for their
longevity.
Her first name was “Civil Lord” and then changed to “SUNDERLAND”
when she worked out of the town of Sunderland England. In 1954 an
inboard diesel engine was installed, during the 1960’s was a private
yacht sailing in European waters and in 1976 was purchased by Robert
Ed. Lowhead, an American who sailed the boat across the Atlantic in
to the Pacific via the Panama canal delivering it to Seattle.
“SUNDERLAND” was also featured in the movie “Captain Courageous”.
The vessel has for the last 14 years been operated by Pirate Ship
cruises of Cabo delighting her more than 20,000 passengers a year as
world class sailing ship.
The “SUNDERLAND” is built of English oak on oak with typical English
plum stem which creates a lengthening of the waterline and gives her
an advantage in sailing speed.
From the moment you step aboard to see the crew in pirate garb and
feel the wooden deck under your feet, you know you are on something
special. Real working cannons poking their snub noses from gun ports
complete the feeling of stepping backward through time.
On our way out of the harbor you will hear the maritime history of
Cabo while watching the crew at work high overhead in the rigging,
and if you like, you can also help haul the lines to raise and trim

110 ft. sailing ship. You will sail this tall ship past “Lovers
Beach” the world famous “ARCH”, “Lands End” , “the Sea Lion Colony”
and in to the Pacific.
